Mario to play lead in Ancient Greek Tragedy    Jul 6, 2010

Mario Frangoulis returns to Europe from the US and his appearances on PBS stations  to play the lead in the Ancient Greek Tragedy "Prometheus" of Aeschylus.

A unique production to mark the re-opening of the Ancient Greek Theatre of Pergamos in Turkey, on Wednesday, July 7th 2010, a theatre that has been closed for over 2.500 years.

The production is presented by the Izmir Festival under the auspices of the Greek Ministry of Culture and Tourism to mark the ongoing friendship between the culture of Greece and Turkey and Unesco and their ongoing drive to reopen all Ancient Greek Theatres around the world.

The same production will be hosted in Delfi, Greece on July 18th.

"Music of the Night" comes to the USA on PBS!    May 28, 2010

For those who live in the U.S. we have some wonderful news. You will be able to see Mario's concert "Music of the Night" for the first time in the US market on your local PBS station beginning May 29th 2010 right through to the end of the year with Mario visiting stations during the pledge periods.

The “Music of the Night” concert was filmed at the Herod Atticus Theatre below the Acropolis, with the Novaya Opera of Moscow Symphony Orchestra and Choir and was conducted by Evgeny Samoilov and features guest soprano, Deborah Myers.

This is a personal selection of songs and a journey with Mario through all facets of his career, from classical arias to musicals and roles he has enjoyed performing, to original songs from his own recordings and of course leading to the colourful melodies of the Mediterranean.

Mario is best known for his powerful and charismatic live performances which are a true reflection of his persona as an artist: diverse and far reaching. He is able, because of his vocal and theatre training, to reach across boundaries and touch his audiences through language (singing in English, Spanish, French, Italian and Greek), musical style (opera, pop, rock, folk, world), and impeccable interpretation.

Mario is recognized all over the world for his philanthropic work and commitment to humanitarian causes and in December 2008 was named International Ambassador of the Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans because of his love for mentoring and his ability to relate to teens. He has helped raise awareness of the mission and programs of the Horatio Alger Association since April 2006. Like characters in Horatio Alger books, he has overcome challenges in his own life and he speaks of how music has been a source of healing and expression throughout his life. Mario believes enthusiastically in the mission of the association and its scholarship program and the power of encouraging people to strive for their full potential and "Music of the Night" brings the Horatio Alger Association and its goals to PBS and the public.

The Horatio Alger scholarship programs are all privately funded through member donations. Scholarships worth $20,000 each are awarded annually in every state through the National Scholarship program; many statewide programs also offer scholarships from $2,500-$10,500.
